Anyone who seeks to establish an account (listing or registration) with 123acu.net must acknowledge having read and understood this page and
does, by continuing with the process of registration, accept the risks
discussed on this page.
123acu.net does not employ secure
communications. Although it stores passwords in an encrypted (encoded) form,
it has chosen to employ an encryption algorithm which is reversible,
allowing 123acu.net to recover passwords for registrants who have forgotten them.
Please read the FAQ sections touching on Passwords.
Anyone ('registrant') who creates an account (listing) on 123acu.net, whether for an OFFICE or for a PRACTITIONER listing, and whether for a fee
or gratis, must understand and accept a small risk involved in doing so.
123acu.net is a directory service which exists to allow its registrants
to display information to the public. It performs no financial transactions
and involves almost no confidential information. Its business is to
make information public, not to promote confidentiality.
As a consequence, 123acu.net has chosen not to use secure communications. This means that
when a registrant creates an account, and when a registrant later logs-in
to edit its information, the password that the registrant types is transmitted
over the internet in 'clear', that is, not encrypted. Hackers could
intercept such a password.
Also, although 123acu.net has chosen to encrypt the passwords of its registrants recorded in its
on-line database (to seek to defeat hackers doing wholesale
password 'research'), it has chosen to use a reversible encryption algorithm
thereby allowing 123acu.net to recover lost passwords, which can be emailed to registrants at the
email-address they specify for receiving administrative emails.
For these reasons, passwords are less than absolutely secure.
For this reason, 123acu.net earnestly suggests that registrants choose a password
for their account(s) with 123acu.net which, while being hard to guess and including both upper and lower
case letters and numerals, is
quite different from any other password employed by the registrant for other
purposes.
